A bit o’ news.

by Ryan on 2011/09/12 at 1:30 pm

Sooooo, got some good news for you, if you’re someone who enjoys these comics that I make. As of today, this very day right here that we’re in, I will be doing Channelate full time. That means more comics, more content and soon, an actual store with actual stuff ! This means that along with more comics, I will also get back to posting warm up comics and other “behind the scenes” types of things.  I also plan to get back to doing animated content, which has always been my passion, it’s just a passion you gotsta have plenty of time for. (which I now will have)

Gotta say, thank you so much for reading my comics, for this wouldn’t be possible with out you doing that very thing. And if you’d like to help in the free’est way possible, please tell your friends about Channelate! I bet they’ll effin love it!

If you’re interested in following along for updates and stuff, here’s where I am:

Pop over ads.

by Ryan on 2011/09/11 at 7:15 pm

There seems to be a weird pop over ad on the site, supposedly from a site called facebinks. It claims to have an exclusive offer from channelate. DO NOT CLICK IT. We’re trying to get to the bottom of it. There should not be any pop over ads on my site and at the moment we’re not totally sure where it’s coming from.  I have these disabled on every ad network I deal with. Sorry if you have had it pop up on you.

Posting.

by Ryan on 2011/07/25 at 12:18 pm

If you’re a regular channelate reader, sorry about the sporadic updates lately. I plan to get back to my regular schedule tonight. I’ve been preoccupied with a few things lately, but I gotta return to the comedic grind.  If you’re a sporadic reader of channelate, it looks like we’ve been on the same page and chances are you haven’t noticed a thing.

Scrapped channelate series.

by Ryan on 2011/06/09 at 1:33 am

Back when I bought the domain channelate.com in 07′ I had the vision of making it a cartoon channel of sorts. channel 8 and other variations were taken, so I thought ChannelAte could work on two levels. One, the Ate, with the original logo being a bite taken out of an eightball (nyuk nyuk). And two, it could be read ChanneLate, as in Late Night, since the humor would be adult oriented. I really was married to the way Channel 8 sounded coming off the tongue.

Anyway, the first cartoon idea I worked on was called Tested on Animals about a dude who lived with former test lab animals who could talk. A chimp named Wayne and an overgrown rat named Rat. My friend Nate and I wrote a handful of scripts, some short and others long. But in the end all that writing really just helped me learn what wasn’t funny  and I think that was an important lesson. I animated most of an episode in 3d, which took forever (almost four months). It was agonizing, because half way through it I knew the jokes weren’t working, but I pushed through until all the animation was finished. I don’t know why, really. When the animation was finished, I scrapped it.

Anyway, I wanted to post these short clips so that all my work back then wouldn’t have been totally in vain. Just kinda in vain.  Also, I thought it would be kind of interesting to show the direction channelate was heading in prior to when I was focusing on comics.

The first clip is an animation test I did to see what the character would look like with my friend Nate’s voice. Also to try out a style I was toying with. The second clip is a snippet from the episode itself. It’s what I think was the best moment in an episode of otherwise lame gags. There aren’t any SFX, just voice overs.

Invisible Bread!

by Ryan on 2011/05/10 at 7:40 am

Hey guess what! My innernette room mate Justin, who’s half of the dudes from Left Handed Toons, launched new effin comic! It’s called Invisible Bread and it’s off to a strong start. I think you’d be happy if you added it to your webcomics reading list.
